What we do
Our pioneering research into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer has saved millions of lives. We have played a leading role in many of the major breakthroughs in cancer treatment over the last 100 years. One in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives, but our vital work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists, and we are making dramatic progress towards our goal of beating cancer.
Cancer survival rates have doubled in the last forty years, and our work has been at the heart of this progress, but there is still much we need to do in order to save many more lives.
Working to beat cancer near you
We are a national charity with a local heart. Not only because of our network of high street charity shops and our committed volunteers and fundraisers all over the country, but also because 90% of the population lives no more than 30 miles away from a Cancer Research UK funded scientist, doctor or nurse.
