World-class scientists

One of the many world-class scientists we fundThere are over 200 different types of cancer, making it a very complex disease to tackle.

We need to learn more about the fundamental biology of cells, to find out how and why cancer develops. Only then can we begin to develop new treatments and ways of preventing the disease.

Recruiting the best brains for the future

Excellence in cancer research depends on recruiting, training and retaining the best scientists. We support over 4,250 highly-skilled researchers, doctors and nurses across the UK. Investing in these talented people is vital if we are to secure a brigher future for cancer patients.

Our research has a real impact

Cancer Research UK is highly respected worldwide for its laboratory research. In 2001, two of our scientists won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work on the cell cycle – a process that plays a crucial role in the development of cancer.
